Dixie has had a very good year! Lots of walking and play at the dog park, lots of travel with us, in the car. We took him along, to Philadelphia, for our grandson, Austin's High School Graduation. He couldn't attend, but stayed at Suzanne's house with Toby and Rose, the Card family canines. From Philadelphia, we traveled up to Pleasant Valley to visit with Jim Sr, then to the Bronx, for the Christening of our first great grandchild, James Joseph! Dixie got to go to the Bronx, even though he couldn't go to St Barnabas or the Pub celebration. He was able to stay in Jim and Marie's apartment, in his crate, while we went to the ceremony and luncheon. He behaved his best and we made the two day trip back home after returning to Pleasant Valley. While we were at Jim's house, Paul came from VT in his vintage automobile. He took Dixie and I for a ride and what an adventure that was. The car is a two seater, and it is extremely noisy. The minute Dixie got in the cab and Paul started the car, Dixie scooted up on the back of the seat behind Paul's head! We managed a short ride to Stewarts Ice Cream Shop and back and that was enough for both of us!
Dixie has more walking friends now. There is Lily, the Corgi, Maggie, a very beautiful Golden Retriever, and Charlie, a tiny and curly poodle, and Peppy, a very old, but chipper, maltese! He loves greeting all his canine friends when we take our daily walks.
Dixie's last escape was in January, when he ran out the door as we were leaving to take me to the hospital emergency room one morning. (I am fine.) It took me a good half hour to get him back to the house. I took a handful of cooked chicken and sat down at the learning center on the golf course and put the chicken near my hand and arm. When he tired of running around like a maniac, he came for the chicken and I was able to capture him and carry him home! I do notice that when he is on the wire outside in the back yard, that he is willing to come to me and go in the house, for a "cookie". However, I will not be letting him loose anytime soon!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
