Well, Dixie's done it again!  As we returned from a walk over on the other side of the second hole of Pine Needles, I noticed some markings on the course and shiny grass and was afraid there were chemicals applied.  When I tried to pick him up, to carry him over the wet grass, he slipped from his harness and ran jet speed, down toward the second green!  (which is near the road)  I called for him and he headed back toward me, but as he got nearby, he veered off and ran across the driving range as fast as his little legs could carry him!  This was midday and people were hitting balls on the range, a worker had just boarded the tractor to gather all the balls on the field, and there were others having lessons on top of the hill.  I just can't run after him, so I sat down in one of the practice areas which wasn't being used, and waited for him to get tired and return to me.....not feeling very confident, but needing a rest!  Of course, I wasn't prepared, as usual, no food to entice him back!  When he got tired of chasing back and forth and annoying the "pick-up"man, he went to the learning center to look for a drink.  I tried very hard to control myself, walked slowly in his direction, and invited him to walk toward the bathroom, where there might be a drink.....and he did!  I was able to loop the leash over his neck and apply the harness and take him home!
Since he pretty much kept and eye on me whilst he was running wild, I wonder if it might come to the day when he could be allowed to run over there and come back to me when he's done?  Thankfully, there are no cars near the driving range, as it's down from the resort and surrounded by different holes of the golf course and resort buildings.
I am grateful, as usual, that I was able to get him safely home!  We were both tired by his adventure and had a quiet afternoon!
